What to expect

When you arrive a member will greet you, show you the music, and guide you through warm‑ups and part learning. We sing in TTBB parts (Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, Bass) and support newcomers learning their part. No pressure — just come and enjoy.

Are you passionate about singing and looking to be part of a vibrant community? Blaenavon Male Voice Choir is opening its doors and inviting men of all ages and singing abilities to join our family. Whether you're a seasoned tenor or a beginner bass, we welcome everyone eager to learn, grow, and contribute to the rich tradition of Welsh male voice singing.

We have sung for the Prince of Wales and also at the Royal Albert hallare singing in June 2026 and have several other exciting events that will be announced in the upcoming months. To support this we are looking to drive up our chorister numbers.  

We are seeking new members of all ages, and no solo-level singing experience is required.

Doors open at 7pm - singing starts at 7.30 pm.

But I can't Sing. You havn't heard my voice....

We hear this all the time! Most new members are surprised by what they can achieve with a little guidance and practice. Singing in a choir isn't about performing on your own, it's about blending your voice with everyone else. Our musical team will help you find the right section and support you as your confidence grows.

And you are right we havn't heard your voice - give you Musical team the opportunity to work with you and you will never look back.

Do I need prior singing experience to join?

No. Many of our members had little or no singing experience when they joined. If you enjoy singing and are willing to learn, we'll help you develop your confidence and ability as part of the choir.

Do I need to read music?

No. While some members read music, many do not. Learning tracks, guidance from our musical team and support from fellow choristers make it easy to learn your part.

What voice part will I sing?

Don't worry if you don't know whether you're a tenor or bass. Our musical team will help identify the section that best suits your voice.

Is there an audition?

New members are welcome to attend rehearsals before any simple voice assessment takes place. The process is friendly, informal and designed to help place you in the right vocal section.

Can I attend a rehearsal before joining?

Absolutely. We encourage anyone interested in joining to come along to a rehearsal and experience the choir first-hand before making any commitment.

How do I join the choir?

It's easy to get started. Simply contact us by phone, email or through our online form and we'll arrange for you to attend a rehearsal. There's no pressure and no obligation, just come along, meet the choir and see what we're all about.

How much does it cost to join?

Your first rehearsal is completely free, giving you the chance to meet the choir and see if it's right for you. Membership subscriptions are kept affordable and help cover rehearsal facilities, music and other choir activities.

What type of events do you sing at?

We perform at a wide range of events, from major concerts and festivals to weddings, charity events and community performances. Recent highlights include singing at the Royal Albert Hall, performing at the Celtic Manor Resort for the Prince of wales and closing the "When The Light Gets In" Festival in Hay. We also enjoy performing at many local venues throughout South Wales and beyond.

What else do the choir get up to?

Choir life extends far beyond rehearsals and concerts. Members regularly take part in fundraising, social events and charity challenges. In recent years choristers have completed endurance walking and triathlon events, raising around £10,000 for both the choir and local charities. Many members join for the singing and stay for the friendships.

I don’t live close to you. How do I find choirs in my area?

We'd love to welcome you to Blaenavon Male Voice Choir, but if travelling isn't practical there are many excellent choirs throughout the UK. You can search for a local Welsh choir through the Traveltrade Wales website

What are rehearsals like?

Rehearsals are friendly, supportive and enjoyable. Alongside learning new music, you'll meet new people, build confidence and become part of a welcoming team. There is also a supply of Werthers Original's for half time and usually several of the team stay behind in the Bar after rehersals.
