Our charitable work

Blaenavon Male Voice Choir is proud to be a Registered Charity in England and Wales (Charity No. 1021994). Founded in 1910, the choir has been a cornerstone of Blaenavon’s cultural life for generations, bringing people together through the shared joy and heritage of Welsh male voice singing. Our charitable status reflects our wider purpose: not only to preserve and promote our musical tradition, but also to serve the community that has supported us for more than a century.

Throughout the year, we perform concerts and community events where proceeds support worthwhile causes. At Christmas, we visit local care homes to spread comfort and companionship through music — a tradition that reflects our belief in using our voices for the benefit of others. Supporting local organisations, community groups and charitable initiatives is central to who we are, helping us make a positive impact across Blaenavon and the wider Welsh community.

Supporting the Synovial Sarcoma Fund

As part of our Blaenavon to Usk Triathlon, Blaenavon Male Voice Choir is proud to support the Synovial Sarcoma Fund, a dedicated fund created to drive vital research into synovial sarcoma — a rare and aggressive form of soft‑tissue cancer that affects both adults and children. The fund was established in partnership with the family of Amber Hoctor to improve understanding, treatment and long‑term outcomes for those diagnosed, helping to close the gap in research for this underfunded disease.

This cause is especially close to our hearts. We are honouring the memory of Sarah Mayers, the beloved wife of one of our choristers, who sadly passed away last year. By taking on this challenge, we aim to celebrate Sarah’s life, raise awareness and contribute to a fund that offers hope, progress and meaningful impact for families facing synovial sarcoma.

Together, with your support, we can help advance research and make a difference in Sarah’s name.

Prostate Cymru

As part of our Blaenavon to Usk Triathlon, Blaenavon Male Voice Choir is proud to support Prostate Cymru, Wales’ leading prostate health charity. Prostate Cymru works across the country to raise awareness, fund research and improve treatment for prostate cancer and benign prostate diseases. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in Welsh men, with 1 in 8 men diagnosed in their lifetime, and an even higher risk for those with a family history. More than 28,000 men in Wales are currently living with the disease, and over 600 Welsh men sadly lose their lives each year.

This charity’s mission is particularly important to us as a male voice choir. Many choristers are in the age group most at risk, as prostate cancer most commonly affects men over 50. Supporting Prostate Cymru allows us to raise awareness among our own members as well as the wider community — helping promote early detection, PSA testing and better access to treatment across Wales.

By backing this vital charity, we aim to encourage men to take charge of their health, break down the stigma surrounding prostate disease and contribute to life‑saving research and support services here in Wales.
