Blaenavon Male Voice Choir’s Inspiring Concert Raises £1000+ for Royal British Legion at Caerleon Primary School

The Blaenavon Male Voice Choir recently took the stage at Caerleon Primary School, where their annual Royal British Legion fundraiser brought in over £1000, drawing an audience of more than 300.

In one of their last performances before their Annual concert in Blaenavon Workings mens Hall (7th December) a smaller than usual choir performed for an hour and a half  - supporting for the 3rd year this great organisation

Departing from the usual church venue, the school offered an intimate, inviting atmosphere that warmly embraced the community’s enthusiastic support for this cherished cause. Soprano Linda Tolchard’s guest performance added grace and depth to the choir’s powerful set, creating an unforgettable evening of music and meaning.

Opening with the stirring Roman War Song, the choir set a bold tone, celebrating valor and unity in tribute to those who have served. This was followed by Pan Fo Nos Yn Hir' (When the Night is Long), a gentle Welsh lullaby that softened the mood, expressing themes of love and peace—a sentiment felt throughout the room.

Calon Lân, a hymn of purity and faith, brought the audience together in appreciation, and Unchained Melody followed, capturing heartfelt longing and nostalgia. The choir showed their versatility with. I Want to Hold Your Hand, a joyful Beatles hit that brought smiles across generations.

In a shift to classical inspiration, Pilgrim’s Chorus from Wagner’s Tannhäuser was a highlight, rich with harmony and reflection. Continuing with traditional Welsh pieces, the choir performed  Rachie, and Tydi a Roddaist, each carrying unique emotional weight, from triumphant pride to quiet reverence.

Cwm Rhondda (Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer) (Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer) stirred a deep sense of unity and faith, filling the hall with its uplifting chorus. The evening closed with Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Land of My Fathers), the Welsh national anthem, which resonated powerfully as the audience stood in respect and pride.

This year’s concert was more than a musical performance; it was a heartfelt tribute and a celebration of community, raising funds for a worthy cause. The Blaenavon Male Voice Choir’s performance reminded all present of the power of music to honor, connect, and inspire.
