Blaenavon to Usk Walking Ultra Marathon 27th April 2025
Nine choir members completed the first Usk to Blaenavon Walking Marathon on 27th April 2025. The 26.2 mile walk turned into around 28 miles from Blaenavon to Usk, making it an Ultra Marathon.
We have as at time of writing raised over £3,800 for the Blaenavon Male Voice Choir.
Part of the money raised will also be donated to a local charity the Marauders Male Health group - take a look at their facebook page to see the valuable work they do across South Wales
Story of the Day....

What a day
Our journey took in history, engineering excellence and the beautiful Welsh countryside
Through the event we were tracked on Strava by dozens of people; some of whom came out and found us as we walked

At 6.30 am we Started from Blaenavon Constitutional club,

Our group made its way past the Blaenavon Iron works up to Keepers pond at the top of Blorenge.

After walking down the infamous tumble
we entered the Brecon to Monmouth canal at Govilon.

Our stop at mile 8 was interesting. Our Chairman (Ben) did a flyby in a self build T- 51 Mustang(stock photo)

We have photoshopped a banner on for next year :)

At around mile 12 we stopped at the halfway point at Goytre Wharf.
it just so happened that we arrived at the same time a a Morgan car event. We all picked our favourite car and if only we could have had the keys we could have saved several hours getting to Usk.

At this amazing venue we spend half an hour with our family and friends and also several choir members proving fantastic support particularly when we sang for the crowds.

Around 3pm Spar New inn after leaving Canal (17 miles)
We then walked to Llandegfedd reservoir visitors center (21 miles)

It was really good to have a couple of supporters come out to give us a last cheer

A special shout out for our secretary Geraint who completed despite knee surgery less than a year ago

We then walked the final couple of miles to Usk where we finish in the heart of the town of flowers, in Twyn Square
This part of our journey took a little more than expected and added a couple of miles to our overall route.
At 7pm we met around 30 supported at Usk bridge (27.5 miles) who provided us all with a glass of champagne
The walk up Bridge Street with dozens coming out to welcome us back to Usk was amazing
We finished at 19:15 in Twyn Square
After around 69,000 steps all 9 starters, with an age range of almost half a century finished

And finally our afterglow put on by the amazing team at the Kings head
